Recently diagnosed with aphasia, Bruce Willis is “stepping away” from acting, his daughter Rumer Willis shared to her Instagram on Wednesday.

After being diagnosed with aphasia, Bruce Willis is taking a retirement from acting. On Wednesday, his eldest daughter Rumer Willis posted an update about her father’s health condition to Instagram.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” Rumer wrote. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

While it’s unknown when the 67-year-old was diagnosed with the condition, Mayo Clinic defines aphasia as “a condition that robs you of the ability to communicate,” and the disorder can impact one’s “ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written.”

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” Rumer’s message continued. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

Prior to the announcement of his retirement, Willis was set to star in several 2022 projects, including films VendettaCorrective Measures and The Wrong Place. The actor’s last released film was A Day to Die in 2021, while his last big screen film was Midnight in the Switchgrass that same year.
