Kendrick Lamar is back with a new video after the release of Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers album and The Heart Part 5 video. The video for the song N95 is filled with trippy grainy footage of skating, Jesus comparisons, and “This Sh*t Hard” in red.
The video, directed by Dave Free and Kendrick shows a new side of Kendrick’s visuals for his latest album. Kendrick floats over the water with his arms out, evoking the symbolism of Jesus walking on water and on the cross. There is also the constant imagery of what’s going on in the song.
In one of the lyrics, Kendrick says “I’m done with the sensitive, making it personal, done with the black and the white, the wrong and the right.” This is symbolized in the video where it shows a black child choosing a white baby doll over the black one, referencing the infamous “Clark Doll experiments” conducted in 1954.
The video was very free-flowing and just good energy all around. Baby Keem, Kendrick’s cousin, also makes an appearance in the middle of the video to give Kendrick a little kiss on the cheek. Kendrick seemed pretty surprised by this and looked up at Keem so who knows if it was scripted or just happened that way.
After a five-year hiatus, Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, Mr. Morale and the Steppers, has been released. The album was announced as his last album on TDE. There has been no word on what label Kendrick Lamar may be signing to.
Mr. Morale and the Steppers is a double album that consists of 18 tracks – nine tracks on each side. Featured artists include Kodak Black, Blxst, Summer Walker, Ghostface Killah, and others.
Prior to the album’s release, Lamar teased fans with his new video “The Heart Part 5”. The video is being called a “masterpiece.” The iconic rapper also previewed the cover art to the release, giving a rare glimpse into his family life and the duality of his role as a protector and nurturer in the symbolic cover. Mr. Morale is predicted to sell 350,000 units in the first week.
