After a Jeopardy contestant confused Public Enemy with The Funky Bunch on a recent episode, PE frontman Chuck D has responded.

Chuck D of Public Enemy is playing it cool after a recent game show slip-up. Long-running series Jeopardy might be down with hip-hop culture, but not all contestants are familiar with the genre that turns 50 next August. During a recent episode of Jeopardy, contestant Halley Ryherd was given a clue from temporary host Mayim Bialik from the category titled “Chuck D, Times 3.”

“In the 1990’s Chuck D began fighting the power in this hip-hop group with Flavor Flav, a man who always knew what time it was,” the question read.

The answer might have been obvious to hip-hop heads, but not to Ryherd who answered “The Funky Bunch.”

As the clip went viral, Chuck D went to Twitter to dissuade PE fans that he was offended to be mixed up with the artist formerly known as Marky Mark.

“Everybody don’t know everything… it’s why I introduce myself wherever I go and whoever I talk to … it’s just courtesy. But the sad thing is not knowing those other Chuck Ds,” he responded to a Twitter user.

Ryherd also took the mishap in stride. “I’ve talked to my therapist about it and I think I’m ready to forever be the person who mixed up Public Enemy and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch on @jeopardy. #mylegacy,” she tweeted.

Jeopardy has traditionally referenced influential names in hip-hop, from Queen Latifah to Fat Joe. Before his untimely death in November 2020, original host Alex Trebek read the lyrics to Megan Thee Stallion’s hit “Savage” from the ‘On The Billboard Charts in 2020′ category.

Daniel Lee chose the $1,000 question, to which Trebrek read “Classy, bougie, ratchet” & “sassy, moody, nasty,” says this No. 1 hit by Megan Thee Stallion.”

Lee successfully answered “What is ‘I’m a Savage’?” without missing a beat.
