Zyah Belle Makes DopeHouse Debut With “Not The One” Single

This writer came across Vallejo-reared singer/songwriter Zyah Belle via her song “DND,” which is literally the theme music of my entire existence these days. That song will land on her forthcoming project Yam Grier (which is on my shortlist for top-5 album titles of 2022).

“Yam Grier is representative of a woman that is reclaiming her time, agency over her body and voice through the generations,” Belle says about the album. “Inspired by Pam Grier’s fierceness that she emoted in her prominent 70s blaxploitation roles. Yam Grier is the embodiment of a woman who has finally come into her own, unapologetically.”
