Yung Miami’s Met Gala After-Party Dress Made Out Of 55 Handbags, Inspired By Chanel

This year marked the Met Gala debut of many celebrities, though none of them did it quite like Yung Miami. Not only did the mother of two shock fans by arriving to the event with Diddy as her date, but she also donned one of our personal favourite looks on the red carpet for the night. The City Girl’s stylist, Marni, came through with the perfect vibes not only for the main event but for the after-parties as well.

In an interview with Complex, designer Duran Lantink spoke about the work that went into making Miami’s second look of the night. According to him, the rap diva’s team got in contact with him just two weeks before the Met. At the time, they requested various concepts paying homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld. Thankfully, Lantink has previously worked for the likes of Beyoncé and was more than up to the task at hand. “Once Karl Lagerfeld presented the double F Fendi logo on top of a hat. So I started thinking about playing around with the double C Chanel logo,” he explained, referring to the headpiece worn by Caresha below, which instead reads CG, for City Girls.

The dress itself was put together using 55 handbags, which were purchased across eight different cities in Holland. “Chanel is known for the leather fabric going through the handbag chains and I thought of the idea of creating braids that sort of go through the chains and then hit the ground,” Lantink told the outlet of his initial vision. Of meeting the Caresha Please host during their fitting, he added, “She was so sweet. And she seemed to enjoy it. I know Marni really wanted that dress to be the red carpet look.”
