Aaliyah fans have started a petition for the late vocalist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aaliyah fans want the late singer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Launched last May on Change.com by fan Albert Tsibu, the petition titled “Aaliyah’s Induction To The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame” has amassed 7,250 signatures to date with an accompanying description that references Aaliyah’s death in 2001.

“More than 20 years after her tragic death, Aaliyah’s presence and influence is still being felt throughout the world of music, fashion, film and pop culture,” the description reads. “As Aaliyah once stated in her 2001 episode of MTV Diary, she wanted to be remembered as a full-on entertainer and someone who did it all; which is exactly what she did within her 7-year career.”

The petition goes on to name all of Aaliyah’s catalog, including her 1994 debut Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number and her eponymous 2001 LP, the final album released during her lifetime. The petition also mentions artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Rihanna and Normani as those who have “credited Aaliyah as a source of inspiration.”

The criteria for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame consideration stipulates that artists must have released their first project “at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.” Aaliyah, birth name Aaliyah Dana Haughton, has been eligible since 2019, when her debut album turned 25. Tsibu who encourages fans to share the petition on social media using the hashtag #Aaliyah4RockHall.

In 2021, Aaliyah’s full catalog came to streaming services, including 1998 album One in A MillionAaliyah and posthumous 2002 compilation album I Care 4 U. Last year, Eminem, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton and more were inducted into the Rock Hall.
