Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA Are ‘Scaring the Hoes’ on Their New Album

Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA are Scaring the Hoes. On Friday (March 24), the alternative hip-hop greats released their 14-track collaborative debut, dishing up comic relief with a single guest appearance from redveil. JPEGMAFIA produced the entire album, including singles “Scaring the Hoes” and “Lean Beef Patty,” with both songs receiving music videos directed by Logan Fields.

Brown and JPEGMAFIA first linked on “Negro Spiritual” from the former’s 2019 album uknowwhatimsayin¿. On the same LP, JPEGMAFIA produced track “3 Tearz.”

Earlier this week, JPEGMAFIA revealed that “every beat” was made with the Roland SP-404 because the artist “wanted to see what it’s like to make music with one machine.” To promote Scaring the Hoes, Brown and JPEG performed at SXSW earlier this month at Collide Magazine and Dr. Martens’ day party on Rainey Street’s Clive Bar. Also stopping by the special engagement was Hannibal Buress (also known under the rap pseudonym Eshu Tune) who tapped Brown for the “Veneers” remix.

Last year, Brown brought out JPEGMAFIA as a special guest during his set at Smoker’s Club Festival, with both confirming that a joint album was in store. In January,  JPEGMAFIA shared images of him and Brown in the studio, writing, “BROWNPEGMAFIA 2023”. In a follow-up tweet, the rappe

Scaring the Hoes follows Brown’s Uknowhatimsayin¿ and JPEGMAFIA’s LP! While still prepping his sixth solo album Quaranta, Brown hosts his own self-titled podcast via YMH Studios.

“I don’t even listen to rap music anymore at this point,” he told Zane Lowe in a 2017 interview. “Like, an album come out I’ll listen to it and I’ll like it, but… podcasts. It’s the future.”
